In doing end-of-season reviews. The Minnesota Timberwolves were a fun team to follow with Anthony Edwards leading the way. Coming into the season, expectations were high for the Timberwolves, who had a top-ten star and a deep roster, and they went on to have a solid regular season. The biggest highlight was them upsetting the Denver Nuggets in the first round without Anthony Edwards, and they came up short against the Spurs, losing in the second round. Now I have three questions for the Timberwolves as they enter the offseason.
Will they go star hunting?
While the Timberwolves have a roster capable of competing, let's be honest: they need a real number-two option. With them having salary cap issues and an expensive roster, I can imagine something like a big trade could allow them to flip Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert. Can they find a way to get a Giannis or even Kawhi to help them in a tough West? Any trade for a big-name player will come through trades for this team, and they must keep their young star happy.
What will they do with the roster?
Even if the Timberwolves don't go star hunting, they might have to cut costs. They have big salaries on the roster(Anthony, Julius, Naz, Rudy, and Jaden). That's a lot of money committed, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some moves made. The Timberwolves also have an upcoming free agent in Ayo, and can they bring him back on a new contract? The Timberwolves will need to address the point guard situation because they can't ride on the Mike Conley train forever.
Future outlook for the next season?
For the Timberwolves, they have some questions to answer: Will they run it back or try big game hunting? Regardless, as long as Anthony Edwards is on this team is going to have a chance in the West, yet they are going to have to deal with a tough West. I believe the Timberwolves are going to be a factor in the West and make the playoffs next season.
