The Dallas Mavericks firing Jason Kidd makes no sense

In surprising news, the Dallas Mavericks have shown Jason Kidd the door; their former head coach is now unemployed. Yet, reading between the lines, the Mavs just hired a new President of Basketball Operations, and as we all know, a new regime wants its own guy. Jason Kidd actually had success in Dallas with Luka Doncic, reaching the Western Conference Finals twice and even the Finals. The moment Nico Harrison traded Luka, that was the writing on the wall for Jason Kidd. For the Mavericks, will this move come back to haunt them because you don't just let a solid NBA coach go unless it's an upgrade, which, right now, seems to be the determining factor?
The Mavs new regime plan
From the moment the Mavs hired Masai Ujiri, we knew this franchise would be completely turned upside down from the previous regime. Coming into the season it was always going to be a gap year. They had Anthony Davis only shipped to the mediocre Wizards, and were one of the worst teams in the West this season. Right now, it's all about building around Cooper Flagg for the next decade, and in a tough West, the team needs a direction. Yes, they have a franchise star who is going to be the second option. Will it come through the draft, and do they still believe in Kyrie Irving at this point in his career, coming off a major injury, missing the whole season? Will they take the blueprint he built in Toronto, build through the draft, sign smart free agents, and find the next version of Dwayne Casey/ Nick Nurse? Whatever path this new regime takes is going to be interesting when it comes to roster decisions towards becoming relevant again.
Where is Jason Kidd going?
Jason Kidd should be one of the top head coaches on the market. Let's be really sure he isn't a top ten head coach in the league. He is in that 11-20 range of the head coaching tier in the league, and that matters in the world of a modern-day NBA. The current openings are interesting, but it's not you going to a franchise that's going to win a title next season. The Chicago Bulls are a historical franchise, yet they are at the beginning of a multi-rebuild, and it's a wonderland, not sure if Jason Kidd is interesting losing games. There is the Orlando Magic; they have the best opening yet, which comes with question marks surrounding their young core, and you have to watch Disney+ as a coach. Then there are the Portland Trail Blazers, who are becoming a thrift shop literally; they're not going to be able to afford him anyway. So it's likely we'll see Jason Kidd take this upcoming season off and be hired next offseason.
Final takeaways
The Dallas Mavericks front office is cleaning up the Nico Harrison mess, and unfortunately, Jason Kidd had to pay for it. I'm not sure who the Mavs will hire to lead the team on the sidelines, whoever that may be, will have massive expectations to win with Cooper Flagg going forward. As for Jason Kidd, he's done enough to earn him another coaching job in the league, whether it's one of the current openings, some franchise will want to hire him. The Mavericks' decision to trade Luka will always haunt this franchise forever, and firing Jason Kidd may do the same to a lesser degree. Will the Mavs find gold in Masai Ujiri's land or will the ghost of Nico Harrison 2K trade haunt them?
