The Arizona Cardinals aren't known for being a competent franchise when it comes to decision-making. Yet they are finally turning the corner by not giving journeyman Jacoby Brissett the bag, and he is holding out because of it. Jacoby is a talented signal caller, but let's be real, he is competing with Gardner Minshew for the starting job, and that signals franchise tanking. Also trying to be Captain Save a bro for the Arizona Cardinals in 2026, like Jacoby isn't the future of the franchise when the team is clearly not investing in you.

Jacoby Could Prove them wrong

We've seen quarterbacks struggle and then go on to succeed. Geno Smith did it in 2022, and Sam Darnold did it in 2024 en route to a Super Bowl win the following season. Arizona isn't devoid of offensive talent; they have Jeremiyah Love, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Trey McBride, to name a few. That's a hell of a starting point for any quarterback under center. Jacoby, having a breakout season, feels likely to have a career year, such as throwing for 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns, a la Geno Smith in 2022. Jacoby could win the 2026 NFL comeback player of the year and be a consolation prize in free agency. He will finally prove the doubters wrong and become a franchise quarterback who finally secures the bag.

Why the Cardinals are right

Despite the offensive talent at skill positions, this is still a bottom-tier roster. The options are Jacoby and Gardner, as I mentioned earlier; neither guy has ever been good under center. They also play in the NFC West, where the 49ers, Rams & Seahawks are playoff contenders, and they are not close to being at the level. Also, the Cardinals are justified in keeping their options open. Sure, Jacoby showed some bright moments last season, but he isn't capable of leading an NFL team to the promised land. The same applies to Gardner; he might get to play some this year, and historically, his teams were bottom feeders. So, yea in a deep 2027 NFL draft that features the likes of Arch Manning, Dante Moore, etc If I am the front office, I am staying committed to getting a high draft pick.

Final Takeaway

The 2026 Arizona Cardinals aren't going to win a lot of games this season in a tough NFC. Jacoby holding out for a new contract makes no sense when he may or may not actually win the starting job. The best possible setup is a breakout season out of nowhere, yet the most realistic option is likely leading them to a three or 4 win season. The fact that they drafted Jeremiyah Love showed they are going to be a run-first team and aren't building around the current guys under center in a quarterback-driven league. So, will Jacoby be Captain, save the Cardinals, or who will he play for in 2027?
