Well that was fast just one day after the Magic lost in a game 7 to the Pistons their now former head coach was shown the door. It's not surprising as I recently covered the Magic off-season this team needed a scapegoat. Jamal Mosley became that and yet he is not the reason why the Magic already desperate to save it's face.

Jamal Mosley deserve a lot of credit he took over a young rebuilding team with no prospects. Yet he built a culture and through the team smart building through draft selected good talent like Franz, Pablo, Jalen and Anthony to name a few. We watch the Magic elevate right before our eyes with three straight playoff appearances. Yet this season was supposed to be different as we all know Orlando gave up first round picks for Desmond Bane. They thought they were Desmond Bane away from title contenders and then the regular season happened. There was smoke in Orlando on Jamal Mosley not watching enough of Disney Plus. In the play-in they the Magic found their stride to make the playoffs on the back of dominating the Hornets. The real reason Jamal Mosley was shown the door was a blowing 3-1 lead to the Detroit Pistons. That's on the team not him to win yet as a head coach he failed to motivate a disengage locker room.

The Orlando Magic is just the latest example of being desperate too fast. Remember the Phoenix Suns traded picks and young talent for KD and Bradley Beal that didn't work out at least they made playoffs this year. Even seven years ago when the Brooklyn Nets gave up talent for a failed big three (KD, Kyrie and James) they still rebuilding. So the lesson is don't trade what's working for what won't work. Orlando is finding out quickly that giving up the farm for Desmond Bane can backfire. The Magic were literally a young ascending team just a year ago and now they have expensive roster with nothing to show for it. The next head coach will be on a short leash because the window is likely three years before the front office hits reset the button. The next head coach must try to win with a solid roster yet a tougher Eastern Conference going forward.

In the NBA championship windows open and close fast. Many young NBA teams believe with a few playoff appearances trade their Honda Accord for a high mileage Range Rover only to be back at Nissan. Jamal Mosley did what he supposed to do and likely will get another opportunity in the league. For the Magic they got some things to figure out how to maximize a expensive roster with a short window. Will the next head coach revive the Magic or be the latest to be have his Disney Plus subscription cancel?
