Remember when the Pittsburgh Steelers use to be one of the most feared franchise in the NFL?

The Steelers Standard is not exactly selling these days. For the first time in 19 years they will be looking for a new head coach to lead their program. Sure the Steelers have been into the playoffs year in and year out with 9 or 10 win seasons. Most fanbases would trade places with the Steelers for playoffs continuity but the reality is this franchise has grown accustomed to being mediorce. Give Mike Tomlin credit he is the greatest coach in their franchise history and replacing him is going to be difficult in repeating that sustained success. Yet, change was needed and even Steeler nation can agree that being just''good'' enough to get in the postseason only to lose with now a 7th straight postseason loss. So what are the keys to the Steelers finding true relevancy in the NFL again? Here a few solutions for a blue blood franchise that needs to reset in today game to be a contender.

Whoever they hire as head coach needs a few seasons

The Steelers hiring the next coach head is one of the most important decisions they can make. If I am the one making that decision I would hire a coach that can be leader of men and have a staff that develops the talent. The next head coach will never be Mike Tomlin but he needs to be a coach that a front office, players and fans can believe in patience is the key for a coach who almost certainly could have a few losing seasons.

Embrace a rebuild

In researching the Steelers this is a team that didn't qualify for the 2022 postseason despite a winning record. So the front office needs to embrace a rebuild meaning they need to a lose a hell of games in order to get better. That worked out well for the Patriots and Texans in recent years the Steelers need to follow that model of being really bad to get elite talent on the roster. Missing the playoffs next season should be non-negotiable especially considering the 2027 draft class will have some interesting names for the quarterback position.

What the hell they are doing at Quaterback?

This has been a issue with the Steelers in recent years every season since 2021. They have had a new starting Quaterback. Multiple guys have tried and sure some wins have helped yet they need a long term answer. Do they bring back A-Rod for one more season, See if Will Howard can provide hope or looked into free agency with potientially 39 million in cap space. But if I am the Steelers front office do we really want to trade for Kyler Murray or Tua and lose in the wild card. Find a bridge Quaterback who will do his job you know not really helping you win games yet helping the team gain a top 3 pick in the 2027 draft.

Trade long time stars to help fix roster holes

The front office needs to move on from the likes of Tj Watt and Cam Heyward to name a few. These veteran players has had great careers in Pittsburgh trading them would allow the Steelers to get draft picks and maybe a young player they can developed. The Steelers needs to address the WR Offensive Line and revamping the entire aging defense.

Will the Steelers finally accept reality or chase mediorcity?

That's the biggest question the Steelers decision makers must ask themselves. They can believe that yes with a veteran roster, a new head coach who will bring a new voice and bringing in a retread veteran Quaterback they can compete in an AFC that's going to be tougher win 9 games and qualify to the postseason which maybe true. Or finally chosing the latter by saying we are ass lets lose games and gets us a damn franchise Quaterback in next's year draft. Let's trade some veterans, draft at key positions and in a few seasons the Steelers Standard will mean something again like relevancy and actual contention. Whatever path they choose this offseason will be their most important decision in franchise history that will either set them up for sucess or set the franchise back for years to come.
