Backlash 2026 Takeaways

As always, Backlash is one of those PLEs that just deliver with only five matches. Sure, not every match was supposed to be good, yet it was better than last month, and that's a good thing. Here are my takeaways from Backlash in what was a big night in terms of storylines continuing and ending.
Bron Breakker will own the second half of 2026.
Right now, it's Oba Femi who has all the momentum and could lead to a big match at SummerSlam if they choose to do so. Yet, Bron Breakker, a guy whom I stood behind over the last year, showed up and showed out. Originally, I had Seth Rollins winning via disqualification, yet the finish was fine, and Bron winning was the right choice, even if with the never-ending distractions. This feud isn't over yet, and Bron needs to deliver the rest of the way, which I believe he will.
The John Cena Classic won't matter
John Cena is a legend, as we all know, and his coming back to announce the classic is interesting. The goal is that fans will be allowed to vote, and the winner, even if a superstar loses, can still win the John Cena classic champion. I don't understand exactly why it's something new; there are questions. Will the champion get a bigger push? Will fans truly decide the outcome? The concept isn't bad, but remember, the Andre the Giant battle royal is irrelevant as hell, and the John Cena Classic may do the same.
WWE needs more PLE matches, seriously
WWE has one of the deepest rosters, and all they have to show for it is a comedy match of Danhausen and his mini vs Kit Wilson and the Miz. This match could have easily been on SmackDown, then a PLE. I am just not a big fan of Danhausen, while Kit Wilson, who should be better, is just a dumpster fire, and the Miz is just losing at this point in his career. I know comedy is a part of wrestling because it's entertainment, yet what a waste of an opportunity. Also, can there be more than just five PLE matches? At least add two more because there is too much talent not being highlighted.
Iyo Sky should be next in line for a title match
Iyo Sky defeated her former ally in Askua in what many say was a hell of a match. Iyo Sky's win should put her right back in title contention, likely for a match with Women's Champion Liv Morgan. That's fine I am a big fan of Iyo and hope she gets another opportunity to shine in a big-time match.
Trick Williams is ready for the ride at Sami Zayn's expense
United States Champ Trick Wiliams to retain in the least suprising outcome. I am over this feud, and WWE should be as well since Trick is at an all-time high. As I mentioned, he should have a lengthy reign, and who challenges him next will be interesting. On the flip side, another Sami Zayn loss could invite a darker edge to him. He certainly is the gingerbread man, and maybe that will lead him to cause hell as a past-his-prime veteran.
Jacob Fatu is going to be a World Champion before the year is out
Jacob and Roman showed out in their match for the world title. Jacob nearly won the title and proved he belongs on the same tier as Roman. I would like to see another match between the two going forward. Jacob Fatu is that dude, and while it's a bold prediction, he is going to be a World Champion before 2026 is over.
