In doing our end-of-season reviews, the Portland Trail Blazers fun season has come to an end. Coming into the season, expectations were modest. We all know what happened to the team head coach, and they were able to overcome that with a young team. Guys like Deni Avijida, Jrue Holiday, and Scoot Henderson, to name a few. The Trail Blazers lost in five games to the San Antonio Spurs in the first round. Now I have three questions to see where the Trail Blazers go from here.
What will the roster look like with Damian Lillard back?
The greatest Trail Blazer in franchise history will be back next season. It's interesting to see if the team tries to upgrade its roster to make a run at a title. They have a solid foundation of guys like Deni, Scoot, Donovan, and so on. Will the Blazers remain committed to their young core or trade some of it for a veteran core to try to win now, with Damian Lillard nearing the end of his career?
Who will be their head coach?
I would hope they bring back Tiago Splitter; he was the interim who took over a challenging situation. He made the team better and led the team to the playoffs. With a new ownership in place, they may prefer to bring in a new coach. Why not just stick with what's working in a guy who earned it?
Future outlook?
With a new ownership in place, the Trail Blazers will have an important offseason. With questions surrounding who will be their head coach and core. I am going to say the Trail Blazers will likely run it back with a roster that gets better. Damian Lillard is back, and that may be enough to make the team competitive. The West will be tough next season; they should be right in the mix for a play-in or playoff opportunity.
