Detroit Basketball!!!

That is something that you don't often hear; now we are getting used to that iconic phrase. The 2025-2026 Pistons are a revelation in today's NBA that lacks true villains and enforcers. The Bad Boys Era was notorious. We could talk about the likes of Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, and a team of Roughriders. I could even remember Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace of those 2000s teams, as we all know the infamous Malice at Palace. Those two Pistons eras have led the way to the current iteration that is one of the best teams in the league today.

It starts with being the best team in the East. As of this writing, the team is 40-13 in first place in the East. That tells us everything because Cade Cunningham is that dude in real life. According to Statmuse, Cunningham is averaging 25.3 on the season, which should put him right in line for MVP consideration. Cade Cunningham can do no wrong, and with the postseason right around the corner, he needs to embrace Isiah Thomas-type energy to get it done in terms of taking this iteration to a title. The best part about this team they are underrated in the East and overall in the league. Fans need to accept that these aren't the vacation Pistons anymore that teams used to take a night off for to play them during some bad years.

NBA casual fans aren't familiar with President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon, who runs the team. He is one of the best in the league, literally, it's like he studied the history of the Pistons and decided he was going to build like it's the 2000's. Trajan likely studied Joe Dumars(The old one, not the current one, who is turning the New Orleans Pelicans into a dumpster fire) in building a roster around your star player. He went out and hired JB Bickerstaff, which was another great decision for why the team is winning today. Trajan Langdon deserves an icon award in Detroit sports for building winning cultures.

Detroit toughness, with its two enforcers, Jalen Duren and Isiah Stewart, who embody what it means to be a Piston. These two are making the Bad Boys and the Wallace Era teams very proud. Jalen Duren is like a throwback center. I mean, he will literally push you in the face because, damn it a Piston thing. Isiah Stewart is a different kind of enforcer. No matter the venue, he will literally swing on opposing opponents.

The Pistons are our heroes this season, and we should all be rooting for this team to win an NBA title. That's right, with one of the best point guards in Cade Cunningham leading the way, showing that you don't need two stars to win. The brilliance of hiring a competent executive and head coach can go a long way. Having guys like Jalen and Isiah who don't mind embracing their Motown Pistons roots in inflicting pain on other teams. Long gone are the sleepy Pistons that just two years ago were a 14-win team. Now, these Pistons are grown, bougie, and feisty. Will you ignore them or join the dark side?
