It was only a few years ago ''Light the Beam season'' I remember that season as a residential king's fan. Yes, that season saw us winning 48 games and making the playoffs for the first time in two decades, taking the Warriors to seven games despite the loss that was in the 2022-2023 season. The future was bright in Sacramento; we had all star tandem in De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. We had ultimate professionals such as Harrison Barnes, Malik Monk, and yes, Keegan Murray. We had a strong supporting cast that I believed could contend in the West for years to come and had Mike Brown to lead us. Since then, we have regressed every season and have not made the playoffs as of this writing. We are 12-42 already, looking forward to the offseason. Here are some of the clueless decisions this franchise has made since that playoff run.

Firing Mike Brown

The Kings should have built Mike Brown a statue for delivering a playoff run to the city. He was the most competent head coach we had in forever, but somehow, they made an ill-advised move to fire Mike Brown at 13-18 just over a season ago. Doug Christie has been our head coach since then want him to succeed and build a winner in Sacramento, but how long will the front office be committed to him? The Mike Brown result he is leading the New York Knicks in third place with a chance to win the title.

Trading DeAron Fox and committing to the Bulls West.

Trading De'Aaron Fox made zero sense because of what the Kings got back in Zach LaVine. Interestingly, this franchise finds ways to get rid of good, competent people. Someone in the front office thought we sign Demar DeRozan and trade for Zach Lavine we can be the Chicago Bulls of the West. Look, there's nothing wrong with the trio of Domantas, Demar and Zach, but the reality is they are an aging core that would have worked out in 2021. The Sacramento Kings front office has been committed to Bulls West to no ends and why stop now in continuing that.

Firing Monte McNair

Moving on from GM Monte McNair was interesting, yet it was what Sacramento bought back. Hiring Scott Perry to lead the franchise forward has been disastrous at best. Signing Dennis Schroder made no sense, a draft class that honestly isn't inspiring, and the idea that the franchise will be opportunistic and prudent has led to the worst record in the NBA. Maybe Scott Perry can turn this franchise around, but recent history leaves a lot to be desired.

The 2026 Trade Deadline

The recent trade deadline is the biggest confusion and dumbest move. Why are Domantas, DeMar, and Zach still on the roster? That's not a trick question; they are not exactly thriving as a trio. I am not sure what the goal was heading into the trade deadline for the Kings, yes, trading Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis (They really gave on young promising player) for DeAndre Hunter. That trade was like giving up a box of Frosted Flakes for a generic store brand. Hunter is a solid player, but will not move the needle at all, and seriously, no picks, clueless is real. The 2026 trade deadline confirms one thing: someone in the front office believes this team can contend as presently constructed. Doing the same thing will always lead to the same result, at least the Kings know that.

How mighty have the Kings fallen since that 2023 playoff run? Firing coaches, trading star players, and committing to a failed sequel is the current brand. You know things are bad when Russell Westbrook is giving you the most effort in our 2026. At least Keegan Murray is there, the only promising block on the roster until then Kings will talk themselves into trading for Kevin Love (He is still a star). Will Sacramento finally commit to rebuilding or continue to trade for 2010's stars of yesteryear this offseason?
