Remember the Zion Williamson hype all those years ago? The tank for Zion was evident sport analysis say this was the second coming of Lebron the most talented player in years. The New Orleans Pelicans won the Zion sweeptakes after dumping their previous star Anthony Davis. Selecting Zion meant New Orleans would not be a dumpster fire they would be a franchise that had a generational talent to build around on and championships would follow. So much for that Zion Williamson era has been forgettable and disastrous. How many coaches they had during the Zion era? That would be three head coaches and four counting the interim in place. How many times they made the playoffs? Once during the 2023-2024 season and he did not participate because of injury. With the trade deadline approaching it's time for both parties to move on it's not a great marriage after all. Here are the teams that need to cash in on the Zion Williamson sweepstakes.
Detroit Pistons
Detriot basketball is back.!!! The Pistons are the top team in the east and if they are serious are about winning a title. Go get Cade Cunningham a second star to pair with him. The ideal of these two is interesting Cunningham would be the most talented player Zion has played with in the NBA. The two star model and depth is old school basketball at it's finest. The East is wide open and they should capitlize on it yes ,they will gave up a first round pick 2027 and some players.
Miami Heat
This is a middle of road team right now that needs a star to build around. I like this move Heat culture is real and Zion can benefit playing for an actual NBA head coach. The front office will make sure Zion is committed he won't have injuries concern. So the Heat they are always searching for it's next star and Zion fits the bill. The Heat gets to move Tyler Herro and some other pieces with those valuable picks. Rest assured Zion will be an MVP caliber candidate down in Miami and this team always develop unknown talent to rockstar role players.
Chicago Bulls
When will the Bulls stop chasing play-in sucess and become relevant. Look I'm not sure exactly what's the long term plan in Chicago you can only go so far with Josh Giddey, Coby White, Nikola The man who might play until he's 60, and Matas Buzelis has the highest upside on the roster. The point is the Bulls need a household name here's where Zion come in. Trading for Zion right now can change their trajectory he would be their most important centerpiece since pre-injured Derrick Rose. Zion should want to go to Chicago because the division is soft right now with Detriot being the only threat. He will be respected to play for the most storied franchise who drafted the greatest basketball player ever. Do what you got to do Chicago and get Zion to the team so you can matter again.
Atlanta Hawks
Lol you might as well get back your 2026 unprotected lottery pick New Orleans.
Los Angeles Lakers
You can never count them out just look at what they did at the trade deadline last year the heist for Luka. Luka and Zion in LA would be fascinating two star model worked well for this franchise before like Kobe & Shaq, Kobe & Paul Gasol and Lebron & AD duo. These duos all have something in common they won a championship. Get these two together and they will follow that same model because history repeats itself. Yes, Lakers will gave up say an Austin Reeves, veterans and the all mighty picks but get a young star in return and a championship is likely.
Zion Williamson career hasn't lived up to expectations at least in New Orleans. If I was the front office I trade Zion because there's no path to winning in New Orleans and they need draft picks. Zion next team can provide him everything the Pelicans haven't a chance to play for an actual coach, roster and a team that will ensure he can say healthy to rewrite the second part of a promising career. It's time to take the Anthony Davis route or remained in Pelican's world of going nowhere maybe the Saints could use him.
