With the NBA season winding down, it's time to start choosing who should be the coach of the year. So many deserving candidates need to be considered for this year's award. Winning this award is more than just a clipboard; it's navigating an 82-game basketball season filled with highs and lows. I have picked five candidates from the Eastern and Western Conferences.

Eastern Conference

  1. Detroit Pistons- JB Bickerstaff

When JB Bickerstaff was hired by this team, no one knew he would elevate this team so quickly. The JB Bickerstaff era has reignited Detroit Basketball from the mediocrity it was once known for. His team currently has the best record in the East, and though the outlook could be cloudy with Cade Cunningham out, this man deserves a statue for making the Pistons relevant again.

  2. Boston Celtics-Joe Mazzulla

Coming into the season, expectations for the Celtics were obviously low. With Jayson Tatum out to begin the season and tearing down the roster full from it's veterans. Yet, look no further, the Celtics are in second place, and they have Jayson Tatum back. Joe, you earned this award.

  3. Charlotte Hornets- Charles Lee

You can say Charles Lee should be the frontrunner to win this year. In his second season, he has the Hornets playing meaningful, winning basketball. The Charlotte Hornets were expected to be an annual dumpster fire, but the development and patience have paid off.

  4. Toronto Raptors-Darko Rajakovic

Surprisingly, the Raptors have been one of the more underrated teams this season. Darko, you deserve some credit for helping this once-competitive franchise go again. Toronto has a young squad that deserves more national attention. Coach Darko deserves some praise for making an average team on paper better.

  5. New York Knicks-Mike Brown

Sure, the Knicks have a deep roster and are a favorite to win the East. Mike Brown basically came into a situation where all you have to do is not screw it up. He has so far done the part, and if he can win a title this season, he will be forever a Knicks legend. So he deserves some praise for this year's award.

Western Conference

  1. San Antonio Spurs- Mitch Johnson

The Spurs are back, and they have a new leading guy to take them there. Mitch Johnson's first season is about as good as it gets; of course, having Wemby and a talented roster helps. He has proven himself thus far and could have a decade-long run ahead at the helm. He should be the favorite to win this year.

  2. Phoenix Suns- Jordan Ott

When the season began The Suns were supposed to be a bottom-feeder and afterthought. Jordan Ott had other ideas; he had this team playing well as they have in recent years. Devin Booker and the role player supporting has worked. Might as well just name him the winner.

  3. LA Clippers- Tyronn Lue

It's been a wild year for the LA Clippers, and yet Tyron Lue deserves credit for keeping it together. We don't have to go into the details, but Tyronn Lue is tailor-made for soap opera drama, and if he gets this team into the playoffs. I mean, he should win an Oscar as well as coach of the year with it.

  4. LA Lakers- JJ Reddick

JJ Reddick has earned his role this season. He has the team playing well, even with the flaws. Yes, having Luka and Lebron is a 2k cheat code. He is one of the best young coaches in the game today, leading the most famous franchise on the planet. No pressure, just win.

  5. Portland Trail Blazers- Tiago Splitter

Technically, he is an interim coach, yet give him credit for making this team competitive for a play-in spot. Considering the circumstances, he has done well enough to earn the role and be a favorite to win this year's award.
